Meet the Vision Therapy Staff
Barb began working as an Optometric Vision Therapist in April of 2005 and became certified in 2009. She attends continuing education courses to remain up-to-date on the latest practices in Vision Therapy. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BS in Education/Special Education for the Blind and Visually Impaired. She received her Masters Degree in Special Education from San Francisco State University. She worked as a teacher/consultant for school districts in six different states. Barb, her husband, and her son moved from San Diego to Charleston after her husband retired from the U.S. Navy. They have decided to make Charleston their final destination!
Elaine joined the Draisin Vision Group as a Vision therapist having retired from the public school system with thirty three years of classroom teaching. A native Charlestonian, Elaine received a BA from Columbia College and Masters in Education from the Citadel. She is certified in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with a master's degree in Elementary School administration. Elaine's extensive educational background and hands on teaching skills enhance the Draisin Vision program.
Denise has been with the Draisin Vision Group since July 2012. Previously she was an elementary school teacher with the Charleston County School system. Denise has a BA in Social Work with a minor in Child Welfare from Columbia College in Columbia, SC. She received her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston. She and her husband Jay have two sons. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, walking, cooking and visiting the beach.
Emily Burk is a Charlestonian native. She graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in Spanish. She is married to William, a medical student at MUSC, and they have an energetic puppy named Moose. She has two younger brothers and a younger sister who also live in Charleston. In her spare time, she is a nanny, participates in international student ministry and teaching English as a second language. She enjoys traveling, friends, coffee and especially spending time with her husband and family. She is excited about her career as a Vision Therapist and chance to make a difference in the lives of her patients.
