Since beginning vision training, James has become aware of how much his vision problems have impacted every aspect of his life. His participation in this program, combined with his occupational therapy, has allowed him an independence as a learner. We used to sit side-by-side with him to ensure completion and accuracy of work. Although his strength in the classroom remains auditory, both at school and home his productivity and positive feelings toward academics have greatly improved. We enrolled James in this program against the advice of many skeptics: we did our research and believed this therapy could change and improve his life. It did. As an educator with 15 years’ experience as a reading instructor, I have learned how much vision (not merely eyesight) can impact readers of all ages. Among the first questions I ask new clients referred to me for academic remediation is this: have you had her/his vision evaluated? Our entire family has grown from this experience.
